(Hong Kong, 2 June 2023) – Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), launched HKSTP’s “Innovation Mixer”, in a mission to boost and elevate the local innovation and technology ecosystem. Following the Singapore leg of the tour, HKSTP continued its overall mission to connect local South East (SE) Asian talent and enterprises to the fast-growing Hong Kong-Greater Bay Area (GBA)-China market opportunities.
As Malaysia seeks to rapidly up-level its digital economy capability, HKSTP’s two-day visit led by HKSTP CEO, Albert Wong and the delegation, is paving a seamless path to technology upskilling and innovation acceleration for Malaysian entrepreneurs.
On the first day in Kuala Lumpur, HKSTP joined a networking dinner with some of Malaysia’s leading government officials and business leaders. These included: Mr. Chang Li Kang, Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation; Mr. Andrew Chiu, Executive Chairman, Land Pacific Development Sdn. Bhd and Mr. Muhammad Ihsan Bin Anwar (son of Malaysia’s Prime Minister), among many others.
HKSTP delegation met with two of SE Asia’s leading and most influential venture capital firms -- 500 Global and SEATech Ventures, to help more promising tech ventures scale up and raise funds regionally and globally.
HKSTP CEO, Albert Wong and the delegation also met with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), a leading agency in driving the digital economy in Malaysia under the Ministry of Communications and Digital, to explore digital economy growth and partnership opportunities to between Hong Kong and Malaysia. HKSTP’s leadership team also hosted a special lunch with the representatives from the Ministry of Science and Technology to discuss deeper collaboration to drive innovation between the two eco-systems.
The evening featured the Tech Talent Ignite networking event for top tech talents and entrepreneurs to hear and share views with some of Hong Kong’s world class scale-ups and unicorns. HKSTP featured ventures from Hong Kong Science Park included Aerosim, Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Fano Labs, FreightAmigo, Huawei, Lalamove, SenseTime, and Spaceship. In total, there are 150 top talents engaged with HKSTP during the SE Asia tour. Both events received overwhelming responses and high attendee interest in the career and growth opportunities offered by HKSTP and its park companies.
The SE Asia trip concluded with a visit to Universiti Malaya, Malaysia’s top university, to explore research and innovation collaboration as well as talent exchange opportunities. The extensive engagements provided an ideal platform for Malaysia’s brightest talent and growing ventures to connect to growth opportunities, plus world-class expertise in R&D and innovations.
The completion of both Malaysia and Singapore visits generated high engagement and huge interest from key stakeholders across government, business, research, education and local talent communities, including networking opportunities with 50+ Singapore startups, investors and professional service providers. There was a significant number of companies that met with HKSTP and Park company leaders to highlight the exciting potential of joining the SE Asia I&T ecosystems with HKSTP’s I&T ecosystem and the broader HK-GBA-China opportunity.
