HKSTP Hosts the First Smart Transportation Challenge to Inspire Innovative Technology Solutions to Address Traffic Congestion

Photo 2: Impulso, which had chalked up a previous win in SciTech Challenge 2020 as the first runner up, took the crown as Student Group Champion in the Smart Transportation Challenge. The team was awarded a one-year subscription of ArcGIS Online.

(Hong Kong, 1 April 2021) - Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) organised the Smart Transportation Challenge in March, a creative way to address traffic congestion in Hong Kong Science Park. With the adoption of simulation technology for the first time, contestants visualised their innovative solutions and shared vision of promoting smart traffic management in Hong Kong.
The open challenge was organised in partnership with Esri China (Hong Kong), Institute of Transport Studies, The University of Hong Kong, Lands Department, MTR Corporation Limited, The Kowloon Motor Bus Company (1933) Limited and the Transport Department.Participating teams made use of datasets provided by partnering organisations to come up with ground-breaking solutions that can improve and forecast the traffic conditions within Science Park, with potential application across the entire city.
More than 30 local and overseas contestants took part and used simulation technology to visualise the outcome of their technology solutions. The top teams were granted proof-of-concept (PoC) opportunities for implementation in Science Park.
