HKSTP Welcomes Agreement to Statutory Plans for San Tin Technopole A New Driving Force to Propel Innovation and Technology Development

(Hong Kong, 20 July 2024) - Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) welcomes the agreement to the statutory plans for the San Tin Technopole. The plans designate substantial land for Innovation and Technology (I&T) purposes, aiming to significantly enhance the research and collaborative spaces available for the I&T industries in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. This development is poised to bolster the growth of I&T enterprises and contribute to the establishment of a comprehensive industry chain in the region.
Dr Sunny Chai, Chairman of HKSTP, said, “We are greatly encouraged by the agreement to the statutory plans for the San Tin Technopole. The implementation of the plans will provide extensive space for all stages of the innovation and technology processes, including research, prototyping, pilot testing, and mass production. It will also greatly accelerate the development of various fields such as life and health technology, artificial intelligence and data science, advanced manufacturing, and new energy technology. I firmly believe that this initiative will significantly strengthen connections and resource allocation, thereby promoting the overall development of Hong Kong's I&T, as well as new industrialisation. This large-scale development plan is sure to cultivate more local I&T talent, attract outstanding researchers from the mainland and overseas, and provide young people with broader development opportunities.”
Hong Kong has entered a golden era for I&T development, with I&T being the new driving force for future economic growth. The San Tin Technopole will integrate the Lok Ma Chau Loop with the land in the Lok Ma Chau or San Tin area, further promoting I&T cooperation between the two regions alongside the Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Zone. As one of Hong Kong's I&T flagship institutions, HKSTP will continue to leverage its resources to further promote the local I&T industry, enhance the I&T ecosystem, actively support government policies, and seize opportunities presented by the national "14th Five-Year Plan." This aligns with the government's "Twin Cities, Three Circles" development strategy, laying a crucial foundation for Hong Kong to become an international I&T hub.
