HKSTP hosts first-ever Hong Kong session at the Second Conference of ISTIF of Boao Forum for Asia

(28 September 2022, Hong Kong) – Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) today hosted for the first time a Hong Kong session of the International Science, Technology and Innovation Forum (ISTIF) of Boao Forum for Asia. The event saw leading academics, professionals and industry representatives converge to explore Hong Kong’s unique advantages in the biomedical industry and opportunities to drive sustainable development of fast-growing sector.
Dr. Sunny Chai, BBS, JP, Chairman of HKSTP, said: “HKSTP is honoured to host the first-ever ISTIF Hong Kong session. Biomedical technology in Asia has tremendous potential, with trends like cutting-edge genetic research enabling major medical breakthroughs such as the COVID-19 vaccine and fuelling growth and investment in the sector. With close links with leaders of industry, academia and policy makers, we have built a unique innovation and technology (I&T) ecosystem within which has sparked a three-fold expansion of biotech companies in the past five years. We look forward to bringing together outstanding talent from Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area and across Asia to leverage technology in creating a better future and better lives for people around the world.”
The two-day ISTIF opened today, with the Hong Kong session connecting live to the Guangzhou main venue online, enabling the Guangzhou audience to watch and join the Q&A session in real time. The Hong Kong session was themed under Genetic Engineering and Biomedicine featured keynote speeches and a forum, with a panel of experts sharing insights on translational research, R&D and financing. The event was widely supported by government officials, renowned scholars and industry leaders, who are leading the effort to establish Hong Kong’s world-class biomedical ecosystem, while nurturing more I&T talent.
ISTIF is a major annual international I&T event inaugurated in 2020 and hosted by The Boao Forum for Asia, and organised by the Organising Committee of ISTIF of Boao Forum for Asia. ISTIF provides a platform for cross-sector dialogue and collaboration between governments and commercial partners to promote international I&T exchange that also fulfills the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals.
