Company

Astra Optics Limited, founded by a team of experts in optical engineering, material science and nanomanufacturing, is a spin-off company of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).

Our innovation, the Femtosecond Projection NanoPrinter, is a record-breaking multi-material nanofabrication platform that can generate arbitrarily complex 3D structures down to a resolution of 30-nm with 17+ materials (including semiconductor, metal, alloy and oxide). It was based on the patented femtosecond light sheet technology invented at CUHK, published in 2019 and 2022 in the Science Magazine. .

By substantially lowering the cost of micro-additive manufacturing, our product enables industrial-scale application of TPL and multi-material 3D nanofabrication at 20-nm resolution for the first time. Harness our product to generate impact in industries such as nanotechnology, biotechnology, healthcare, renewable energy, and electronics.

Description

Commercialising record-breaking nanoscale 3D printing technology for prototyping and mass production of optical devices used in smartphones, AR/VR and more.

Our novel optical system generates high-energy light sheets to simultaneously achieve high-resolution, high-throughput, and low-cost two-photon polymerization. Compared with existing state-of-the-art commercial two-photon lithography products, our method is 100-1000 times faster at comparable resolution (150-nm), ten times lower at the fabrication cost.
Currently, prototyping for widely used micro-optic and photonic devices such as diffractive optical elements, microlens arrays, photomasks and metalenses is expensive and has long lead times. The NanoPrinter, while having the capacity to fabricate complex 3D structures with 17+ materials, also significantly reduces fabrication cost by 90% and lead time by 95%.
