HKSTP Hosts I&T Day x Sensor Hub Workshop to drive Testing, Development and Deployment of Sensor Technologies together with EMSD and OGCIO

Hong Kong, 16 January 2020 – Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) today held a I&T Day x  Sensor Hub Workshop at Hong Kong Science Park, with a view to providing the public sector and Park companies with matching opportunities for the development and potential deployment of innovative sensor and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions in Hong Kong.

HKSTP set up the Sensor Hub in 2017 to provide companies and researchers with a real-world environment for sensor testing, data collection and feedback for evaluation and analytics. At the workshop, government departments from the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD), Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO), Drainage Services Department (DSD) and Lands Department (LandsD) shared their experience and challenges faced in applying sensor technologies in their operations.

All government departments are exploring sensor-related innovations to enhance operational efficiency and service quality. For example, Electrical & Mechanical (E&M) equipment monitoring, optimisation and predictive maintenance; smart drainage for flood monitoring; and ubiquitous positioning infrastructure. The installation of LoRa (long-range) network infrastructure by EMSD in Hong Kong Science Park, is set to provide a more stable network for developers to test, develop and commercialise their IoT sensor innovations.
