Six Hong Kong Science Park companies shine in Hong Kong Internet of Things Award 2014 Scooping 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Certificates of Merit

(Hong Kong, 30 October 2014) - Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (“HKSTPC”) is dedicated to promoting the development of innovation and technology in Hong Kong. HKSTPC nurtures start-ups and fosters their success through the comprehensive range of R&D facilities and services, which include provision of advanced laboratories; various professional, tailor-made consulting and incubation services; and extensive business development services. Not only have these start-ups received prestigious recognitions in local and international technology innovation communities, their innovative inventions have also provided flexible and creative solutions to a variety of real-life issues derived from modernisation, bringing significant benefits to the greater community. HKSTPC is delighted that six companies, with R&D base at Hong Kong Science Park, have won top awards at the recent Hong Kong Internet of Things (IoT) Awards 2014, scooping one Gold Award, two Silver Awards and two Certificates of Merit for their breakthrough creative and extraordinary application of Internet of Things (IoT) technology.

HKSTPC’s partner company, Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (“ASTRI”), and incubatee, Lincogn Technology Co. Limited, have received Gold and Silver Award respectively in the “Winning IoT Technology” category. ASTRI’s winning project, the self-developed Mobile Heart Health Monitoring System allows anyone with a smartphone, tablet or PC to conveniently monitor their heart health anytime and anywhere. The electrocardiography data can be viewed real-time or uploaded to a centralised data server where physicians and nurses can gain access for diagnosis purposes. Lincogn Technology Co. Limited won the Silver Award in the “Winning IoT Technology” category with Bluetooth smart home products. The series of Bluetooth 4.0 processors it developed can be easily installed in home electronic products. Users can control and turn on/off the appliances with the mobile App, which helps save energy and put the idea of smart home into practice.

The Silver Award for the “Winning RFID Technology” category went to Science Park’s partner company Megabyte Limited. Its invention, mTray, is a smart jewellery display tray specially designed for the jewellery and watch retail industry. The tray comes with built-in patented intelligent monitoring technology, which effectively monitors the place and quantity of the display items on the tray. Moreover, when mTray comes into contact with customers carrying Bluetooth devices, it can tell their purchase history instantly so that the salesperson can introduce products to customers that better suit their needs.

In addition, three incubatees received recognition from the Award organiser for their innovations in IoT technology. Colt Advance International Ltd received the Certificate of Merit with its product Cloud Based Sleep Guard; QBS System Limited and Cenique Infotainment Group Limited jointly developed IoT Intelligent Gateway and were awarded the Certificate of Merit as well.

According to International Data Corporation’s latest research report, the market size of global IoT solutions will increase from US$1.9 trillion in 2013 to US$7.1 trillion in 2020. HKSTPC sees the unlimited business opportunities brought by such technology, and has therefore been actively promoting the development of IoT technology, leading Hong Kong to become a smart city. HKSTPC Chief Executive Officer Mr Allen Ma congratulated the six companies in the Park for their awards, “We are very happy to see so many Science Park companies achieving remarkable results at the Hong Kong IoT Awards. This has proven that their products are widely accepted by the industry as solutions to daily problems and operational challenges.
