HKSTP and HYAB Launch 'HYAB Youth Startup Internship Programme' Exploring I&T Opportunities with 100 Internship Positions

(Hong Kong – 22 January 2025) – Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), in its third year of collaboration with the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau (HYAB), has launched the “HYAB Youth Start-up Internship Programme” (YSIP). This initiative, in partnership with park companies, provides 100 internship opportunities and a wealth of engagement activities for full-time students aged 18 to 30 from diverse backgrounds and academic disciplines, ranging from science and engineering to other fields. YSIP is designed to encourage the active involvement of young talent in the innovation and technology (I&T) sector and to establish Hong Kong as a magnet for global I&T talent.
Talent is the key to I&T advancement. Under the programme, HYAB will provide salary subsidies to support park companies in hiring and nurturing the next generation of talent. The responses have been significantly positive so far, with over 130 start-ups offering more than 150 internship positions for three to six months. 100 opportunities will be selected for youth to apply across various fields, including data analysis, software engineering, research and development, business development, and marketing. Through diverse platforms and collaborations with tertiary institutions, HKSTP park companies received nearly 1,700 internship applications in the past two years of YSIP, demonstrating the strong interest of young people in the I&T sector and the programme’s success in attracting top talent.
Fanny Wong, Head of Talents and Human Resources of HKSTP, said, “We are delighted to continue our partnership with HYAB to launch the HYAB Youth Start-up Internship Programme, in response to the government's efforts to enlarge the I&T talent pool. Since 2023, the programme has benefited 114 start-ups and over 200 young individuals, who championed this initiative inspiring young elites to develop long-term careers in the I&T ecosystem upon the completion of YSIP. We hope to help youth from varying disciplines discover possibilities and support rapid growth for businesses, laying an important foundation for the future success of Hong Kong's I&T industry."
HKSTP is committed to cultivating future leaders in innovation and technology through offering a diverse array of talent programmes, attracting over 350 interns from renowned local and international universities last year. From March 2025, successful intern applicants of the HYAB Youth Start-up Internship Programme will commence their internship. Beyond work duties at start-ups, participants will have ample opportunities to engage with peers and innovators within Hong Kong's largest I&T ecosystem, fostering collaboration and expanding their professional networks. HKSTP will also arrange a series of activities, including networking events, skill enhancement workshops, visits to leading tech companies, and tours of innovation facilities. Additionally, a 3-day, 2-night exploration trip to the Greater Bay Area (GBA) will be the highlight of the internship programme, allowing participants to experience the mainland entrepreneurial environment firsthand and seize opportunities in the GBA for their future I&T careers.
The HYAB Youth Startup Internship Programme is now accepting applications. Interested individuals can find out more and apply on the programme's webpage. The interview arrangement will be directly handled by the participating park companies.
