(Hong Kong, 4 June 2024)— The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) is immensely encouraged by the selection of the first Hong Kong resident as a payload specialist in the fourth cohort of national preparatory astronauts and expresses deep gratitude for the national support extended to Hong Kong.
The appointment of the inaugural Hong Kong payload specialist marks an unparalleled opportunity for conducting scientific space research, underscoring the nation's esteem and recognition of Hong Kong’s scientific community. Dr Sunny Chai, Chairman of HKSTP, said, “The significant achievements of the national spacecraft programme fill Hongkongers with immense pride. In 2022, HKSTP was selected as one of the preliminary screening organisations, and we felt privileged to encourage eligible researchers from our park to participate. We are honoured to be involved in this historic endeavour and extend our heartfelt congratulations to the first Hong Kong resident chosen as a payload specialist in the national preparatory astronaut programme, a distinguished honour for Hong Kong."
HKSTP will continue to strengthen the innovation and technology (I&T) ecosystem and actively promote the development of Hong Kong as an international I&T hub while fully integrating into the broader national development strategy.
